Nandos Chicken on FerrymeadSafari Meats was founded in 2005 by Floris and Lize Smit.  They primarily sold organic meat.  In June 2008 my wife and I took over the business.  We, Chris and Magda Basson, are originally from Secunda, South Africa, where we also worked in the meat industry.

After managing Safari Meats as it was for some time, we saw a great desire for more traditional sides, such as whole/half sheep, hind quarters, meat hamper, etc, among both local South Africans and Zimbabweans.  We have chosen to move away from organic business, and now provide non-organic, free range meat.

We believe that meat should be fully ripened first, as this results in a softer, more apetising product for our customers.  We are well known all over Christchurch for our succulent ripened rump steak.  We boast a wide assortment of different and tasty products for the traditional braai (barbeque), including kebabs, oepsies, pork grind steak, Texan (Blou Bul) steak, boerewors, and much more.

Home is never far away with many of your favourite South African products on offer, such as Ouma Beskuit, Mrs. Balls’ Chutney, mieliemeel (traditional South African cornmeal), Ingrams Campher Cream, Robinson Spices, koeksisters, just to name a few.  We also lend South African magazines.

In order to stay within easy reach of all our customers, we also employ the use of courier services to deliver goods.  We are fully capable of serving the entire North and South Island.  We currently take orders over the phone, via fax, or email.
